French Culinary School
Le Cordon Bleu is perhaps the best-known French culinary school in the world. The name is French for 'blue ribbon' which is appropriate because graduates of this school are considered the cream of the crop. Founded in the 19th century, this school is where legendary TV chef Julia Child obtained her education. Today there are Le Cordon Bleu educational programs in 20 nations and 22,000 students on average. You can find quite a few affiliated schools in the United States.
The affiliated schools in North America combine the classic French techniques with innovative new trends and techniques. At every Le Cordon Bleu location you can choose between three programs. They offer a culinary arts program that will teach you everything you need to know to work as a chef at a fine restaurant. They also have a hospitality and restaurant management program which is ideal for students planning to work at hotels or resorts. This program is also great for anyone who wants to own or manage a restaurant.
The third program offered by this establishment is the Patisserie and Baking program. As its name suggests this program focuses on baking and creating desserts. You will learn to make all kinds of breads, pastries, chocolates, sugar decorations, cakes and so much more. If you've always dreamed of running a bakery or working as a pastry chef in a high class restaurant this program is for you. Any one of the three Le Cordon Bleu educational programs will prepare you for a rewarding career in the food service industry. When an employer reads your resume and sees you have studied at one of these schools they are likely to be impressed.
Another French culinary school you may want to consider is the French Culinary Institute. Located in New York City, this institution offers Classic Culinary Arts, Classic Pastry Arts and The Art of International Bread Baking. These programs are ideal for any student interested in French cooking. The establishment in which the school is housed has expanded and now also offers an Italian Culinary Institute for students interested in the cuisine of Italy. No matter which school you choose it is important to schedule a consultation with the admissions department and tour the facilities to make sure you're making the right choice.
